Fridah's Story

Where are you from?

Nairobi, Kenya.

What attracted you to Keheala?

Having an opportunity to make real difference and impact in someone's life. TB is still spreading, patients with MDR-TB are increasing in number and TB deaths are still very common. This is saddening because TB is a preventable and curable disease. Good thing Keheala is looking to change a lot of that so I couldn't stay away. Meaningful work; any day, anytime.

I had a close family member diagnosed with cancer and I witnessed her health deteriorate knowing there was nothing humanly possible I could do to alter it. That’s an experience I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. TB is the fourth leading cause of death in Kenya, which is absurd considering it’s preventable and curable, unlike cancer. My mission is to join others in ensuring we defeat TB completely.

What is the most meaningful part of your job?

Forming personal relationships with TB patients and providing them with non-stigmatizing support throughout their journey to wellness.
